Mitten in den Kitzbüheler Alpen – zwischen Kitzbüheler Horn und Wildem Kaiser – liegt St. Johann in Tirol. Bekannt bei Wintersportlern, aber auch ein tolles Ziel für Wanderer und Genießer. Perfekt für ein aktives Mutter-Tochter-Wochenende in den Bergen.

Vier Tage lang haben das Töchterchen und ich die Natur ringsum auf tollen Wanderwegen genossen und abends die Energiespeicher mit Tiroler Schmankerln aufgefüllt.

Apropos Genuss: Ein heißer Tipp ist der Wochenmarkt jeden Freitag mir zahlreichen Ständen von Anbietern aus der Region. Ein Messerschleifer ist bei der Arbeit, Bauern bieten ihre Produkte – von Kren über Eier bis Honig – an, der Bäcker holt duftendes Brot aus dem mobilen Backofen, Kunsthandwerker präsentieren Schmuck und Keramik. Und natürlich kannst du auch Spezialitäten probieren. Ein Favorit: Germkiachl, frisch gebackene Hefeküchlein, die traditionell mit Preiselbeeren serviert werden. Kenner schwören auf die Variante mit Sauerkraut. Mutige kombinieren süße und saure Aromen.

Es war eine tolle Reise und beim Betrachten der Fotos stelle ich fest: Ich könnte gleich wieder die nächste Schottlandreise planen!

Beautiful Edinburgh (English below)

Die schottische Hauptstadt war letzte Station unseres Roadtrips durch Schottland.

Viktoria Street führt in einem eleganten Bogen vom Grassmarket zum Castle Hill – mit bunten Häusern und netten Läden für Design, kreative Mode und Vintage-Kram sowie ein paar angesagten Lokalen.

Außerdem gibt's zwei Harry-Potter-Shops. Kein Wunder – die Viktoria Street soll J. K. Rowling als Inspiration für die Winkelgasse gedient haben. Ob das stimmt, weiß wohl nur Mrs. Rowling. Anyway – für meine Mädels ein Pilgerziel 😘.

Und Edinburgh Castle thront über allem.

Victoria Street leads in an elegant bow from Grassmarket to Castle Hill - with colorful houses and nice stores for design, creative fashion and vintage stuff, as well as a few trendy eateries.

There are also two Harry Potter stores. No wonder - Victoria Street is said to have served J. K. Rowling as the inspiration for Winkelgasse. Is that true? Only she knows.

Wie gefallen euch die Pferde?

Auf dem Weg von Glasgow nach Edinburgh machten wir einen einzigen Abstecher – zu den Kelpies bei Falkirk. Die beiden 30 Meter hohen Skulpturen des Bildhauers Andy Scot beim Forth and Clyde Canal stellen zwei Kelpien dar, Wassergeister in Pferdegestalt. Eine Hommage an die Pferde und ihre Zugkraft, die in der Frühphase der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung der Region eine Hauptrolle spielten. Sie zogen nicht nur Wagen und Pflüge, sondern auch Lastkähne. Hingucker auf jeden Fall.

On the way from Glasgow to Edinburgh, we made one detour - to the Kelpies near Falkirk. The two 30 metre high sculptures by sculptor Andy Scot by the Forth and Clyde Canal in Falkirk depict two kelpies, water spirits in the shape of horses. A tribute to horses and their pulling power, which played a major role in the early stages of the region's economic development. They not only pulled wagons and ploughs, but also barges. Definitely an eye-catcher.

Wer war denn schon mal in Glasgow? Hat euch die Stadt gefallen?
Ich war überrascht angesichts toller Bausubstanz. Glasgow war tatsächlich mal die zweitwichtigste Stadt des Königreichs nach London. Dazwischen war es die gefährlichste Stadt Europas 😉.

Sehr gut gefallen haben mir das Kelvingrove Museum mit alten Mauern und moderner Kunst ( Elvis mit Heiligenschein 😇!), die tolle Uni und die wunderbare Kathedrale, aber auch das Riverside Museum of Transport von Zaha Hadid zum Beispiel. Glasgow lohnt definitiv!

Who has ever been to Glasgow? Did you like the city?
I was surprised by the great buildings. Glasgow was actually once the second most important city in the UK after London. In between, it was the most dangerous city in Europe 😉.

I really liked the Kelvingrove Museum with its old walls and modern art, the great university and the wonderful cathedral, but also the Riverside Museum of Transport by Zaha Hadid, for example. Glasgow is definitely worth a visit!

Magical mystery tour in Kilmartin (English below)

Es sind ja oft nicht die großen Sehenswürdigkeiten, sondern die versteckten Orte, die einen besonderen Zauber verströmen. Einer meiner Lieblingsplätze in Schottland war Kilmartin – ein Tal mit Relikten der Frühgeschichte wie Steinreihen aus tonnenschweren Monolithen und Hügelgräbern. Dazu ein tolles Museum und eine Kirche mit mittelalterlichen Grabsteinen auf dem Friedhof. Hier waren wir die einzigen Besucher.

It's often not the big sights, but the little-known places that exude a special magic. One of my favourite places in Scotland was Kilmartin - a valley with relics of early history such as rows of stone monoliths weighing tonnes and barrows. There is also a great museum and a church with medieval gravestones in the cemetery. We were the only visitors here.

Art Trail on the Isle of Mull (English below)

Bevor du den Calgary Beach, den schönsten Strand von Mull, erreichst, führt ein Abzweig zu einer Kunstgalerie mit Shop und Tea Room. Der Ort für eine nette Pause, denn die Fahrt auf den Single Track Roads erfordert Konzentration.

Am besten gefiel uns aber der Art Trail, der direkt an der Galerie startet. Er ist liebevoll angelegt mit vielen kleineren und größeren Installationen – meist aus den Materialien, die die Natur bereithält. Ein Hingucker ist definitiv die "Lady in Green", die strandwärts zu schweben scheint.

Before you reach Calgary Beach, the most beautiful beach on Mull, there is a turn-off to an art gallery with a shop and tea room. The perfect place for a nice break, as the drive on the single track roads requires concentration.

But our favourite part was the Art Trail, which starts directly at the gallery. It is lovingly laid out with many smaller and larger installations - mostly made from the materials that nature provides. One eye-catcher is definitely the "Lady in Green", who seems to float towards the beach.

Glassbarn und der kleinste Keksshop der Welt (English below)

Die Isle of Mull hat uns tatsächlich das Herz gebrochen: Es war alles schön und besonders. Der Glassbarn zum Beispiel, ein Café mit Cheese Factory im Gewächshaus. So nett!

Genauso wie der kleinste Keksshop der Welt, in dem nur eine Person Platz hat. Du stellst dir dein Keks-Sortiment zusammen und schmeißt das Geld in die honesty box. Es gibt mindestens zehn verschiedene Sorten, die alle lecker sind und hier im Outlet natürlich auch günstiger als anderswo. Weil wir alle "Krümelmonster" sind, haben wir zugeschlagen. Apropos Kekse: Auf dem Blog gibt’s auch ein Rezept für Scottish Shortbread.

The Isle of Mull really broke our hearts: Everything was beautiful and special. The Glassbarn, for example, a café in a greenhouse. So nice! Just like the smallest biscuit shop in the world, which only has room for one person.

Glasgow ist Liebe auf den zweiten Blick. Nicht königlich, hübsch und selbstverliebt wie Edinburgh. Eine Stadt der Arbeiter, kantig und rau. Lange vorbei sind die Zeiten, als Glasgow die zweitwichtigste Stadt im Königreich war. Aber vorbei sind auch die Zeiten, als Glasgow als gefährlichste Stadt Europas galt.

Street Art und Glasgow gehören schon lange zusammen. Die Arbeiten der Lokalmatadore Rogue und Smug prägen die Stadt. Einen Banksy gab es auch, den man einfach übermalte. 🥲

Glasgow is love at second sight. Not royal, pretty and self-indulgent like Edinburgh. A city of workers, edgy and rough. Long gone are the days when Glasgow was the second most important city in the kingdom. But also long gone are the days when Glasgow was considered the most dangerous city in Europe.

Street art and Glasgow have long belonged together. The works of local heroes like Rogue and Smug have left their mark on the city. There was also a Banksy, who was simply painted over. So sad!

Highland Cows und Schafe (English below)

Warum liebt eigentlich jeder Schafe? Auf jeder Schafinsel renne ich ihnen hinterher und knipse Schafpapas, Schafmamas, Schafbabys ... Aber die Scottish Blackface sind auch wirklich besonders nett, oder?

Und noch netter sind die Highland Cows, die uns ganz frech den Weg versperrten auf dem Weg von Glengorm Castle nach Tobermory. So blieb viel Zeit zum Fotografieren 😉.

Why does everyone love sheep? I run after them on every sheep island and take photos of sheep daddys, sheep mums, sheep babies ... But the Scottish Blackface are really nice, aren't they?

And even nicer are the Highland cows that cheekily blocked our path on the way from Glengorm Castle to Tobermory. So there was plenty of time to take photos 😉:
