Wart ihr schon mal dort, wo Kaffee wächst? In der Kaffeezone Kolumbiens haben wir auf einer Kaffee-Finca gewohnt, um dem Geheimnis des Kaffees auf einer Tour ein bisschen näher zu kommen.

Leider schmeckt der Kaffee in dem Land, das der zweitgrößte Kaffeeexporteur der Welt ist, oft scheußlich, weil traditionell die besten Qualitäten in den Export gehen. Das ändert sich aber gerade ein bisschen. Und wenn du guten Kaffee bekommst, trinkst du ihn als "Tinto" – schwarz –, weil Milch den Geschmack verwässert.

Auf einer Kaffeetour haben wir gelernt, dass es in Kolumbien neben roten auch gelbe Kaffeekirschen gibt, dass oft noch uralte Maschinen zum Einsatz kommen und wie man gute Kaffeebohnen von minderen Qualitäten (für Starbucks & Co. 😉) unterscheidet. Spannend!

In the coffee zone, we stayed on a coffee finca to get a little closer to the secret of coffee on a tour. I'm not a coffee drinker at all, but tea drinkers won't be happy in Colombia.

Unfortunately, the coffee in the country that is the second largest coffee exporter in the world often tastes awful because traditionally the best quality coffee is exported. But that is changing a little. And if you do get good coffee, you drink it as ‘tinto’ - black - because milk dilutes the flavour.

On a coffee tour, we learnt that there are both red and yellow coffee cherries in Colombia, that ancient machines are often still used and how to distinguish good coffee beans from inferior qualities (for Starbucks & Co. 😉).

So schön bunt hier: Die beiden Stadtjuwelen in der Kaffeezone sind Salento und Filandia mit ihren Kolonialhäusern und bunten Haustüren. Während sich Salento ganz dem Tourismus verschrieben hat, findest du in Filandia immer noch viel Alltagsleben neben netten kleinen Coffee Shops.

The two city jewels in the coffee zone are Salento and Filandia with their colonial houses and colourful front doors. While Salento is entirely dedicated to tourism, in Filandia you will still find plenty of everyday life alongside cosy little coffee shops.

Eine Attraktion der Kaffeezone rund um Salento sind die Wachspalmen – mit bis zu 60 Metern die höchsten Palmen der Welt. Wir sind ins Palmental gewandert, du kannst aber auch reiten. Auch im Nebel wunderschön.

One of the attractions of the coffee zone around Salento are the wax palms - the tallest palm trees in the world at up to 60 metres. We hiked into the palm valley, but you can also go horse riding. Beautiful even in the fog.

Our South American adventure (English below)

Einige haben es vielleicht schon in den Stories gesehen – wir sind auf Südamerikareise. Der Mann muss endlich nicht mehr Urlaubstage zählen, und ich kann an vielen Projekten von überall auf der Welt arbeiten. 10 Wochen werden wir insgesamt unterwegs sein und vier Länder bereisen – Kolumbien, Ecuador, Peru und Bolivien. Für uns beide die erste Begegnung mit Südamerika. Aufregend!

In Kolumbien ging es los mit einer 12-Millionen-Stadt. Im Vergleich zu Bogotá ist München tatsächlich ein Dorf. Und doch hat uns die Stadt – vor allem das Kolonialviertel La Candelaria – positiv überrascht mit ihrer Lebensfreude, Musik, Street Art und zwei großartigen Museen – dem Botero-Museum und dem Museo del Oro. Und dann der Blick vom Montserrat, zu dem du mit der Seilbahn hinaufschwebst, aufs Häusermeer! Aber schaut selbst.

Some of you may have already seen it in the stories - we are travelling to South America. The best travel buddy finally no longer has to count holiday days and I can work on lots of projects from all over the world. We'll be travelling for a total of 10 weeks and visiting four countries - Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. For both of us, it will be our first encounter with South America. Exciting!

In Colombia, we started with a city of 12 million people. Compared to Bogotá, Munich really is a village. And yet the city positively surprised us with its joie de vivre, music, street art and more. But take a look for yourself.

Art meets Nature on Viðey Island/Reykjavik (English below)

Ich bilde mir ein, schon einiges von Island zu kennen. Diesmal habe habe ich nach meiner Arbeitsreise zwei Tage privat verlängert und eine Lücke gestopft. Vor der Küste von Reykjavik liegt Viðey Island, nur 20 Minuten mit der Fähre vom Old Harbour entfernt.

Dort kannst du das Haus des Stadtgründers anschauen - heute ein nettes Café –, wandern, grillen, picknicken, Vögel beobachten, Elfenhügel entdecken und Kunst gucken.

Richard Serra und Yoko Ono schufen hier außerdem Kunstinstallationen. Serra erinnert mit seinen Säulen an die vulkanische Natur der Insel; Yoko Ono ließ einen Friedensturm errichten, der im Sommer ein bisschen trist wirkt. An den langen Wintertagen schickt er eine Lasersäule in den Himmel.

I imagine I already know a lot about Iceland. This time, after the round trip with my group, I extended my stay privately for two days and filled a gap. Viðey Island lies off the coast of Reykjavik, 20 minutes by ferry from the Old Harbor.

There you can visit the house of the city's founder - now a nice café -, hike, barbecue, picnic, watch birds and look at art.

Richard Serra and Yoko Ono created art installations here. The former's columns are reminiscent of the island's volcanic nature; Yoko Ono created a peace tower, which looks a little dreary in summer. On the long winter days, it sends a laser column into the sky.

Vulkane, Gletscher und Wasserfälle sind die Top 3 in Island. Es soll 11254 Wasserfälle geben. Keine Ahnung, wer sie gezählt hat und keine Ahnung, wie viele ich auf meinen Island-Reisen gesehen habe. 30, 40?

Hier eine kleine Auswahl. Welcher ist dein Favorit?

1/2 Skogafoss – ein Vorhang aus Wasser
3/4 Gullfoss – der goldene Wasserfall am goldenen Ring
5 Dettifoss – der leistungsstärkste Wasserfall Islands, eine Urgewalt
6 Tal der Tränen – gleich mehrere Fälle im Hochland
6 Hengifoss – einer der höchsten
8 Seljalandsfoss – ein Schleierfall, hinter dem man spazierengehen kann
9 Litlanesfoss - vor einer Arena aus Basaltsäulen

Where the elves live – Snaefellsness (English below)

Die Halbinsel Snaefellsness blüht ein bisschen im Verborgenen. Sie liegt abseits der Ringstraße und von Reykjavik zwei Stunden entfernt. Ein Besuch lohnt sich aber unbedingt. Nicht zufällig nennt man die Halbinsel auch "Island en miniature".

Es gibt Lavastrände, Wasserfälle, einen Vulkan, in dem Jules Vernes "Reise zum Mittelpunkt der Erde" begann, und noch viel mehr. Nicht zu vergessen die Elfenburg (Fotos 3/4), wo Elfen leben – das verborgene Volk.

Eine meiner Lieblingsregionen in Island – auch bei richtigem Mistwetter wie bei meinem Ausflug.

The Snaefellsness peninsula flourishes a little out of sight. It is located off the ring road and 2 hours away from Reykjavik. But it is definitely worth a visit. It is no coincidence that the peninsula is also known as “Iceland in miniature”.

There are lava beaches, waterfalls, elven castles and much more. One of my favorite regions in Iceland.

Sieht das nicht außerirdisch aus?

Das Lavafeld aus dem 18. Jahrhundert ist überwuchert mit Zackenmützenmoos, das unter Naturschutz steht. Kein Wunder – im isländischen Klima braucht die Natur Jahrhunderte, um sich zu regenerieren.

Doesn't that look alien? The lava field from the 18th century is overgrown with serrated cap moss, which is a protected species. No wonder - in the Icelandic climate, nature takes centuries to regenerate.

Puffins in Iceland (English below)

Im Sommer bin ich normalerweise beruflich mindestens zweimal in Island. In diesem Jahr einmal mit kleiner privater Verlängerung.

Es war wie fast immer wild und stürmisch, ich habe mich ordentlich durchpusten lassen und die Tage auf der Insel im Nordatlantik mal wieder genossen.

Ein Must-see sind natürlich die Papageitaucher am Kap Dyrhólaey.

I'm usually in Iceland at least twice in the summer for work. This year I only went once, but with a short private extension.

It was once again wild and stormy and I enjoyed my time on the island in the North Atlantic as much as ever.

The puffins at Cape Dyrhólaey are of course a must-see.

Ein Wochenende an der Nordsee

Wo sind denn hier die Nordseefans?

Mein Schwager wohnt auf der Nordseeinsel Pellworm. Eine halbe Weltreise von München entfernt. Aber zum runden Geburtstag sind wir gern angereist und haben ein wunderbares Wochenende auf der Insel verbracht – mit Gegenwindradeln rund um die Insel, Fischbrötchenessen, Strandkorbsitzen und allem was dazu gehört. Sooo erholsam!
